Le début
Le premier style expressionniste est né en France avec les Fauves (“bêtes sauvages“), soi-disant à cause de la violence expressive de la couleur. Un deuxième groupe, Die Brücke (“Le Pont“), est apparu plus tard en Allemagne. Au tournant du siècle en Europe, des changements dans les styles artistiques ont éclaté en réponse à d’importants changements sociétaux. L’art reflétait la perturbation psychologique provoquée par ces développements soudains.

L’architecture Expressionniste
L’expressionnisme s’est répandu simultanément à travers l’Allemagne en réaction à l’anxiété de la relation de plus en plus discordante de l’humanité avec l’environnement et la perte croissante d’authenticité et de spiritualité. De plus, les problèmes politiques et sociaux ont également influencé l’architecture.

C’est par ce souci d’expression intensive que les styles individuels ont généralement acquis la marque de l’expressionnisme. Voici les principales caractéristiques d’un artiste expressionniste:

Erich Mendelsohn
Erich Mendelsohn était un architecte allemand et un pionnier du design moderne. Commençant par une approche sculpturale et émotionnelle, il s’est rapproché du style international. En outre, il est bien connu pour son architecture expressionniste dans les années 1920, ainsi que pour inclure le dynamisme dans ses œuvres pour les grands magasins et les cinémas.

Peinture Expressionniste
Les peintres expressionnistes ne cherchaient qu’à représenter la nature exprimant leurs sentiments sur ce qu’ils voyaient. Il s’agissait donc d’un art plus individuel et personnel. Les racines de l’art expressionniste remontent aux merveilleux paysages de Turner.

“Le Cri” de Munch est une expérience autobiographique d’un cri perçant la nature pendant une promenade. Les courbes continues de l’Art nouveau racontent une fusion linéaire subjective imposée à la nature. Mais l’homme fait partie de la nature, et l’absorption dans une telle totalité liquide l’individu.

Cinéma expressionniste
Les films expressionnistes sont nés de l’isolement de l’Allemagne et ont été approuvés par un public international. De nombreux producteurs européens ont imité l’esthétique absurde et unique du cinéma allemand. Les films expressionnistes voulaient transmettre l’expérience intérieure de leurs sujets. Voici des exemples célèbres:
- Le Cabinet du Dr. Caligari (1919) dirigé par Fritz Lang;
- Nosferatu (1922) de Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau;
- Metropolis (1926) de Fritz Lang.
