60 years ago, the “Father of CAD”, Dr Patrick Hanratty created the first numerical control system, later called Computer-Aided Design, the precision, versatility, and edit-ability of which were groundbreaking.

CAD software is used by architects, engineers, drafters, artists, and others to create precision drawings or technical illustrations. CAD software can be used to create two-dimensional (2-D) drawings or three-dimensional (3-D) models, which can then be viewed from any angle.

a popular software

A software like this can facilitate the manufacturing process by transferring detailed diagrams of a product’s materials processes, tolerances and dimensions or high-quality renderings, taking into account the different characteristics of every material.

The ability to digitally model and automate a prototype before ever generating a physical model adds enormous efficiency to manufacturing processes and cost reduction benefits.

In today’s industrial productions CAD technology is integrated with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines or Additive Manufacturing processes (3D printers) like Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM).

CNC machines
CNC machines are used for high quality 3d printing.

It is also used for highly accurate dimensional analysis and mathematical scalability using vector graphic technology (digital images based on mathematical formulas), providing highly precise part tolerance (much lower margin of error between parts).
