Radical-Kitsch are Post-Modern styles characterized by humorous and eccentric objects, which tend to be superficial and/or excessively theatrical.

The Terms of Radical-Kitsch
Anti-Design was a movement and style born in Italy. The movement employed striking colors, scale distortion, and featured irony and kitsch. The function of the object was to change completely through the architectural manipulation. Thus, the period was called Radical Design period.

Famous Designers
Architect and designer Alessandro Mendini focused on neo-modern and contemporary features. As an architect, he designed several structures, such as Alessi residence in Omegna, Italy. In addition, he created the ornate and singular Proust Armchair Medini for the Italian firm Cappellini.

Philippe Starck was born in Paris, in 1949, and he is one of the best known and creative designers of his time. During his life, he obtained many important prizes, such as the one won in the Grand Prix National de la Création industrielle and the Honor Award of the American Institute of Architects.

Costes chair, created by Philippe Starck for Driade, features a black painted tubular steel structure and curving plywood shell made of mahogany, grey oak or other precious woods. The timeless design of the Costes chair makes it relevant today. Plus, this is over 26 years since it was first placed on the market.

Maarten Baas was born in Germany. In June 2002, he obtained a degree at the Design Academy and created a series of burned furnishings and an ingenious sundial that show time in shadowtexts. Additionally, the Smoke series entered the collection of Dutch label MOOOI, desired by Marcel Wanders.
