Qui était Napoléon III?
Napoléon III, neveu de Napoléon I, fut empereur de France de 1852 à 1870. Né en 1808 à Paris, il grandit en exil. Cependant, il a commencé sa quête de retour au trône en 1832, écrivant pour faire connaître ses idées au peuple. Enfin, il est devenu l’empereur du Second Empire français, et il a été le premier président de la France élu par une élection populaire.

Napoléon III modernise le système bancaire français, améliore le système ferroviaire, et rend la marine marchande française importante au niveau international. Napoléon III a commencé la guerre franco-prussienne (aussi appelée la guerre franco-allemande). Cependant, lorsque la Troisième République française a pris le relais à Paris, Napoléon est allé en exil en Angleterre, et il est mort en 1873.

Sur le style
Une grande partie de Paris a été repensée sous Napoléon III avec de grandes avenues et des bâtiments monumentaux frappants pour remplacer les structures médiévales. Le changement à Paris, dans le style Second Empire, a eu un fort impact sur la conception des bâtiments en Europe et aux États-Unis. Le prototype du style Second Empire est l’Opéra Garnier, à Paris, conçu par Charles Garnier.
