American Pop Art
American pop art started after a few years after its British counterpart. One of the biggest differences between British pop art and American pop art was that British one was interested more in light-hearted tones and often tended to include humor. American pop art, on the contrary, was the result of the incessant marketing that Americans weresubjected to. It tended to be more serious and dramatic.

In 1954, Johns had a dream in which he was working at an American flag. This inspired him to create “Flag”, a painting in encaustic, a technique that employed pigments fused with melted wax.
